GIANTS MANAGER TONY VITELLO’S SEASON ENDS IN EMBARRASSMENT: 7TH EJECTION OF THE YEAR!
It's a shocking statistic that makes you wonder if Tony Vitello's first season as an MLB manager was doomed from the start: with a record-low 65-96 win-loss record, the San Francisco Giants were in last place in any other division but the AL West. But what really seals the deal is Vitello's seventh ejection of the season, the most by any manager in MLB. The latest ejection came after a heated argument over a check-swing call against the Los Angeles Dodgers, a call that was highly questionable, to say the least. With a 2-2 count, one out, and runners on first and second, Mookie Betts' bat clearly went past the plate on a high fastball from Sam Hentges, but the umpire Marvin Hudson ruled it a check swing. This isn't the first time the Giants have been on the receiving end of a bad check-swing call against the Dodgers. In fact, it's a sore spot for the team, as it was a 107-win Giants team that had its season ended in the 2021 NLDS against the Dodgers. Vitello, who was hired as one of MLB's most outside-the-box managerial hires in recent memory, has been under pressure to deliver results, but it seems he's got his work cut out for him. With an aged roster beset by injuries, it's no wonder the team struggled, but Vitello's handling of the team and his lack of experience may have been a recipe for disaster. The question on everyone's mind is: will he be back for the 2027 season?
