ASTROS and RANGERS SINK TO NEW LOW: MLB’s Worst Division Champ Will Have a Losing Record!
Can you believe that for the first time in MLB history, a division champ will have a record of .500 or worse? The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, the top two teams in the American League West, both lost on Friday, guaranteeing that one of them will win the division despite having a losing record. The AL West has been the worst division in baseball all season, with a combined -473 run differential. The Rangers are currently "leading" the pack with a -48 run differential, but the Astros own the tiebreaker, so they have the lead going into the weekend. The division champ will then get to host a wild-card series against the AL's third wild-card team, setting up some awkward matchups.
